Bike racks at the Community Center

The Albany Community Foundation recently donated money to the City of Albany to purchase bike racks for the Community Center.  Realizing the need for even more, we partnered with the Albany Strollers and Rollers applying for and receiving a grant from PG&E for additional racks.  Look for these at Terrace and Memorial Parks in the near future.

The City of Albany and the Albany Community Foundation held 3 park clean up days during the spring. Memorial, Ocean View and Jewel's Terrace Park were all weeded and drought resistant plants were planted and trees were trimed.  City staff, ACF members and neighbors had a great time getting to know each other while improving the parks.

Removing the weeds from the sidewalk and street

A very successful work party was held June 19 on Jackson Street between the Castro steps and Hillside. Most of the weeds were removed and the plants which had been planted last fall were seen to be growing and thriving. This is part of an ongoing attempt by the Community Foundation and the City of Albany to remove weeds and plant native species in that area.

Hard at work, pulling up weeds

October 16, 2010 found the Albany Community Foundation and Friends working on the Jackson Street slop again.  Natrive plants were planted and the area heavily mulched.  Thank you to all who came out to help, especially the Leos from AHS.  They have been there for every work party.

The Albany Community Foundation has been a major supporter of the Arts and Music Festival (now Arts and Green Festival) since 2005.  This year's event was a huge success with many people enjoying the beautiful weather, appreciating the different art booths, dancing to the music and learning new and exciting ways to be more sustainable.  The 2011 Arts and Green Festival was a partnership of the City of Albany Recreation Department, the City of Albany Arts  and Sustainability Committees,  the Albany Community Foundation and Albany Rollers and Strollers.  We are looking forward to seeing you at the 2012 Festival.
